Costs

What does an Odoo implementation cost?

Updated on October 4, 20267 min read

An Odoo project has five cost blocks: licences, hosting, implementation services, custom development and ongoing support. Only 25% of the 127 partners whose website we could read publish prices, so comparable quotes matter.

The cost components

  • Odoo licences. Per user per month. According to odoo.com/pricing (as of October 2026) there is a free plan with one app, a Standard plan from roughly EUR 20 per user and month (Odoo Online, all apps) and a Custom plan from roughly EUR 36 (adds Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting options, Studio and multi-company); the exact figure depends on the billing term. A cheaper light-user tier also exists. A Community edition is free of licence fees, with fewer features.
  • Hosting. Odoo Online (included in the plans), Odoo.sh (Odoo's managed platform for custom code), or your own or a partner's server. 39% of partners whose website we could read offer hosting.
  • Implementation services. Requirements workshops, configuration, data migration, training and project management. This is usually the largest block.
  • Custom development. Special workflows, reports, interfaces to shops, banks or industry software, and local requirements. It also adds to later upgrade effort.
  • Ongoing support. Hours, subscriptions or retainers for questions, fixes and updates after go-live.

What drives the cost

  • Number of users and apps, and how standard your processes are.
  • Volume and quality of data to migrate (customers, items, open items, history).
  • Degree of customisation and number of integrations.
  • Local requirements: tax and accounting rules, bank formats, e-invoicing, multiple companies or languages.
  • Your own effort: who decides, who tests, who trains colleagues. Slow decisions cost more than most items on a quote.

Fixed price or time and material?

Among partners we could read, the stated pricing models are: packages 20%, time and material 12%, fixed price 12%, subscription support 12%, prepaid hours 6% and retainer 3% (partners can state several).

  • Fixed price: predictable budget, clear deliverables; but needs a precise scope, and changes are priced separately.
  • Time and material: flexible and good for unclear requirements; but the final cost is open unless you agree an estimate and a cap.

Can AI-assisted delivery lower the cost?

11% of the partners we could read describe concrete AI-assisted delivery. Where it is used for repetitive configuration, data mapping and migration scripts, it can reduce effort. Ask any partner what exactly is automated, how results are checked and whether savings show up in the quote.

How to get comparable quotes

  1. Write one brief: company size, users, processes, apps, data to migrate, integrations, local requirements, timeline.
  2. Send the same brief to three partners of suitable size and region.
  3. Ask each quote to list workshops, configuration, migration, training, project management and go-live support separately, plus what is excluded.
  4. Ask about licences, hosting and support after go-live, not just the project.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Odoo cost per user?
According to odoo.com/pricing (as of October 2026), the Standard plan starts at about EUR 20 per user per month and the Custom plan at about EUR 36, depending on the billing term. A limited free plan with one app exists. Check the page for current figures.
Is a fixed price better than time and material?
A fixed price gives budget certainty but needs a precise scope; changes become change requests. Time and material is flexible but needs controls such as estimates and caps. Many projects combine a fixed-price first phase with flexible later phases.
Why do quotes for the same project differ so much?
Usually because scope, data migration, number of workshops, training and customisation are assumed differently. Give every partner the same written brief to make quotes comparable.
Do I have to pay for the first consultation?
Not necessarily: 56% of the partners whose website we could read offer a free first consultation. Some charge for a paid workshop or pre-project analysis.
