The three options in short
Odoo partner: a company officially registered with Odoo S.A. that implements, customises and supports Odoo for customers. Odoo direct: Odoo S.A. sells implementation hours itself. Freelancer: an individual consultant or developer, usually without a partner agreement with Odoo.
What Odoo offers directly: according to the Success Packs page on odoo.com (as of October 2026), there are five packs of 4, 25, 50, 100 and 200 hours, covering analysis, configuration, training, data import and simple form, report and workflow customisations. List prices run from about EUR 587 to EUR 19,800, with a discount on a new customer's first pack. The pricing page points companies under 50 employees to Success Packs and larger ones to certified partners; custom development can be handled by partners.
Comparison

|---|---|---|---|
| Who configures | Team of consultants and developers | Odoo consultant assigned to your pack | One person |
| Local presence and language | Often regional, German/French/Italian; on-site possible | Remote first; on-site possible, travel billed separately | Varies widely |
| Local requirements (DATEV, GoBD, Swiss QR-bill, e-invoicing) | Often covered by experience and local modules; ask for references | Standard product scope; check what is included | Only if the person has done it before |
| Custom development | Yes, usually in-house | Limited; larger work goes to partners | Possible, depends on skills |
| Continuity and support | Support teams, contracts, deputies | Pack hours, then support per your Odoo plan | Depends on one person's availability |
| Cost structure | Packages, fixed price or time and material | Prepaid hour packs | Hourly or day rate |
| Risk if a person leaves | Lower: knowledge shared in a team | Lower: handover within Odoo | Highest: sole holder of knowledge |
When each option fits
- Very small company with standard needs (a few users, a few apps, no integrations): Odoo Success Packs or a small partner package can be enough. A freelancer works if you document everything and have a fallback.
- Typical SME (10 to 50 users, accounting, inventory or production, some integrations): a partner. You get a team, local compliance know-how and ongoing support. Compare partners by tier, references and retention in our tier guide.
- Complex or heavily customised projects (several entities, special workflows, interfaces): a partner with proven projects of similar size. Gold partners have a median of 65 references and 6 certified experts.
Practical points
- Whoever you choose, insist on access to your own database, documented configuration and a written scope.
- Partners can take over running or stalled projects: 13% of those we could read say so explicitly.
- Freelancers are not part of this directory. If you consider one, ask for references, a deputy arrangement and who owns the code.
- Many partners (about 56% of those we could read) offer a free first conversation, a low-risk way to compare approaches.

Frequently asked questions
- Can Odoo S.A. implement Odoo for me directly?
- To a limited extent. According to odoo.com (as of October 2026), Odoo sells Success Packs of 4 to 200 consulting hours for configuration, training and data import. Larger or more complex projects are normally handled by partners.
- Is a freelancer cheaper than a partner?
- Often the hourly rate is lower, but the total cost depends on scope and rework. The main difference is risk: if one person is ill or leaves, the project and the knowledge of your system can stall.
- Can I change partner during a project?
- Yes. 13% of partners whose website we could read state that they take over projects from other partners or freelancers. Expect an audit of the existing setup first.
- Are freelancers listed in this directory?
- No. The directory covers official Odoo partners only, because their tier, references and certified experts can be verified.
